Diagnosis and Liver Metastasis

Katie Thurston revealed in February 2025 that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. By March, she confirmed that the cancer had metastasized to her liver, making it stage 4.

“Every day I’m alive, I’m a survivor,” she said in her Instagram video. “Go me, I guess.”

Hair Loss and Cognitive Effects

Thurston noted that treatment side effects have been intense, particularly hair falling out in clumps and noticeable memory loss. She described a moment at customs where she could not remember where she was arriving from.

"Jeff and I laughed about it later, but it was scary in the moment,” she said.

Ovary Removal May Be Required

Thurston explained that her body hasn’t responded to medically induced menopause as expected. She still experienced menstruation, leading doctors to consider ovary removal surgery.

“Got my period — that’s not supposed to happen,” she said bluntly.

New Treatment and Hope for the Future

She is preparing to undergo histotripsy, a non-invasive ultrasound treatment targeting tumors in her liver. While there's no definitive cure, Katie remains optimistic about future medical advances.
