Having gone through what Apple showed on stage, plus what's leaked out of the developer betas since, my honest take is: mostly yes, with a few asterisks that are worth knowing about before you get your hopes up.

So if you're trying to figure out whether this update is worth your attention, here's the actual breakdown not the marketing version.

When does it actually arrive?

Apple's rhythm hasn't changed: preview at WWDC in June, developer beta same day, public beta a month later, full release in September alongside new iPhone hardware. Nothing about iOS 27 breaks that pattern. Barring a surprise, you're looking at September 2026 for the finished product.

Here's a detail that got buried under all the Siri news: this was Tim Cook's last keynote as CEO. He's stepping down at the end of August and handing the job to John Ternus, who's run hardware engineering for years. Knowing that changes how I read the rest of this release it explains why Apple threw so much at one keynote instead of spreading it out.

Does your iPhone even qualify?

Good news first. iOS 27 is expected to run on anything currently running iOS 26 supposedly all the way back to the iPhone 11. Nobody's getting cut off this year, which honestly isn't something you can always count on with Apple.

Everything older still gets the new interface and most of Apple Intelligence. It just won't feel as sharp.

Apple knows this is the headline, and it's not being subtle about it. The assistant literally has "AI" tacked onto its name now, and for the first time it's escaping the little assistant box it's lived in for a decade it's a full standalone app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, with your conversation history following you across all three.

What actually matters isn't that it chats better. It's that Siri AI can supposedly read whatever's on your screen and act on it. Someone texts you flight details, you hold the side button, say "add this to my calendar and text mom the arrival time" and it just does it, no copying, no app-switching. It can also dig through your Mail, Messages, and Photos on its own to answer things you'd normally have to hunt down by hand.

Now here's the part that's been generating actual arguments online: how Apple got here. Instead of building its own frontier model from scratch, Apple struck a multi-year deal reportedly around $1 billion a year to run its next-generation Apple Foundation Models on Google's Gemini technology. For a company that has built ten years of marketing around not needing anyone else's cloud, that's a strange pill to swallow. Liquid Glass finally gets a dial

Last year's Liquid Glass redesign split people right down the middle some loved it, plenty found it borderline unreadable in bright sunlight. Apple heard it. iOS 27 adds a transparency-and-contrast slider under Settings > Appearance, so you can push the glassy effect back toward something more solid, or crank it up if you were actually into it. Small feature, huge relief for a lot of people. Of everything I looked at, this is probably the single most-requested fix from the last year of complaints, and it's sitting right there in Settings instead of buried three menus deep.

Parental controls actually got serious attention

Apple spent real keynote time on this one, and the feature list backs it up:

• A Setup Assistant for parents that pops up automatically the first time you configure a kid's iPhone
• "Ask to Browse," which pings you when your child tries visiting a site they haven't been to
• Time Allowance, for setting time budgets on specific app categories like Entertainment
• Schedule-based screen time, so weekday and weekend rules can actually be different
• Default "Ask to Buy" and mandatory child accounts under 13, closing a gap that used to let younger kids slip through with looser defaults

The small stuff that's been annoying people for years

Not everything here is about AI. Some of the best changes are the tiny, overdue ones.

Alarm volume finally has its own slider. Your alarm used to share a volume with ringtones and alerts, which meant a quiet-ringtone setting could also mean sleeping through your alarm. There's now a Match Ringtone Volume toggle under Settings > Sounds & Haptics that lets you decouple the two.

AirPods get a real equalizer. Owners of AirPods Pro 2, AirPods Pro 3, or AirPods 4 can now tweak bass, midrange, and treble by hand go to Bluetooth settings, tap the "i" next to your AirPods, then Audio and Routing > Equalizer > Custom. Competing headphones have had this forever; it's nice to see Apple catch up.

Drawing tools landed in Messages. Hit the + button in any thread and there's a new Drawing option for quick sketches handy for marking up a screenshot or just being goofy with a friend.

And speed, unglamorous as it sounds. Apple's claiming up to 30% faster app launches and 70% quicker performance on certain photo tasks. If your phone has felt sluggish since the iOS 26 redesign, this might end up mattering more than any AI feature on this list.

AI image tools got a real upgrade

Image Playground finally moves past its cartoon-only phase and can generate photorealistic images now. The bigger deal is the editing side: you can request changes with plain-language follow-ups, or literally mark on the image where you want something altered, instead of regenerating the whole thing and hoping for the best.

There's also a new Photos feature called Spatial Reframing it keeps your subject locked in place while letting you shift the angle, perspective, or background around them. Tap Reframe in the editor, pan and rotate as needed, and AI fills in whatever new space that opens up. It won't fix bad photography, but for that one family photo where the framing just missed, it's a genuinely handy save.

Apple Maps picks up AI-enhanced flyovers too, with visible detail down to individual trees in select cities, plus reported satellite-view support.

So, should you update?

If Siri is what you care about, the real upgrade lives on an iPhone Air or 17 Pro that's where the on-device processing does its heaviest lifting. Older supported phones still get the new interface and most Apple Intelligence features, just with less horsepower behind them.

If you're a parent, this might be worth updating for on its own. It's the most substantial parental-controls release Apple has put out in years.

If you mostly just want your phone to feel faster and less cluttered visually, the performance gains plus that new Liquid Glass slider could be reason enough even if you never open the new Siri app.

Thousands of homes in England and Wales will be eligible to receive a £9,000 grant to switch to a heat pump this summer, the Government has announced. This is an increase from the previous £7,500 grant that was available to help homes switch from fossil fuel buringing boilers.

Heat pumps are becoming a more popular heating choice due to the fact that theyre a more energy-efficient choice compared to a standard gas boiler, with lower running costs. Theyre already hugely popular in countries with colder climates such as Norway, Finland and Sweden.

Heat pumps are powered by electricity rather than fossil fuels such as oil or gas, and this latest increase in the government's boiler upgrade scheme funding is to help rural households in England and Wales make the move to a heat pump and protect them from fossil fuel spikes. Heres everything you need to know.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant

On 26 June, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero announced that from 21 July, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant is increasing by 20%, from £7,500 to £9,000, to help rural households switch from heating oil to heat pumps.

The Government says this grant will electrify families heating, meaning they are protected from future fossil price spikes and providing greater certainty over energy bills. A pair of former Kia employees have been accused of stealing 1,008 engines from the factory over a period of at least three years. The scheme was worth an estimated $2.3 million. However, the police allegedly said that the real cost was the "widespread impact on industrial operations, stakeholder trust and employment security.

That sounds almost as though the police were being coached by the manufacturer or were trying to downplay everyones inability to catch two guys that were stealing completed engines on a regular basis. According to Reuters, Kia apparently wasn't even sure the engines were absent until March and contacted police in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh over internal records that found engines sourced from its sister carmaker, Hyundai, were missing. The assumption was that it was an inside job dating back several years.

From Reuters:

An initial police investigation found two former Kia India factory workers a team leader and a head of section in the engine dispatch section were involved in illegally transporting the engines from the factory using forged invoices and manipulated gate passes, according to an April 16 police document.

They worked with at least two other individuals who helped arrange transport, and two other scrap dealers who helped sell them to buyers as far away as the capital city New Delhi.

"The entire operation involved repeated illegal transactions, use of multiple trucks bearing manipulated or pseudo registration numbers," Inspector K. Raghavan said in his investigation document dated April 16, seen by Reuters.

Raghavan declined to comment when contacted, citing confidentiality.

In a statement to Reuters, Kia India said it identified the discrepancies as it enhanced its inventory management processes last year. Kia India conducted an internal investigation, reported the case to police and was continuing to strengthen internal process governance and reinforce stringent monitoring systems, it added.

That still left the thieves operating for a couple of years under the radar. Had they stopped prior to 2025, theres a chance they could have gotten away unnoticed.

Kia caught wind of something fishy in December of 2024 when CCTV footage showed unauthorized vehicle movement in the factory. But it didnt notice the missing engines until January of this year. Subsequent probes apparently led the manufacturer to file a comprehensive police report in March, with the assumption that roughly 1,000 engines had been stolen over a period of three to five years.

Minus the forged records, the illegal operation looks to have been pretty straightforward and was largely dependent on the facility in Penukonda boasting not noticing a batch of engines going missing every so often. The site builds loads of engines every day and up to 400,000 vehicles each year. However, police remain concerned that there are other accomplices still employed due to the large scale of the theft.

Realistically, two men loading a bunch of motors onto a truck isnt an uncommon occurrence at a factory that builds engines. But the scale of the theft suggests that other employees had helped, specifically individuals involved in overseeing inventory and those keeping tabs on shipments. Police are primarily concerned with former employees. But they are likewise worried that some individual still on Kias payroll may be involved specifically members of management who would have almost assuredly had to sign off on shipments leaving the facility.

Currently, only Vinayagamoorthy Veluchamy (ex-head engine dispatcher) has been arrested while Patan Saleem (a former team leader) has been accused. The former denies any involvement in the crime while the latter seems to have disappeared. However, police have stated that theyre only in the initial stages of the investigation and have yet to formally charge anybody for the crime. Veluchamy also left the company in 2023, whereas Saleem stayed on until early 2025.

Police documents stipulate that involved individuals could face over ten years in prison if convicted since the crime showcases high-level preplanning [and] internal access manipulation. While the authorities seem to be taking this seriously, the odds of the right people being caught arent terribly high. Thievery is extremely common in India, with reports of theft routinely eclipsing 500,000 examples annually. But that doesnt tell the whole story since most instances of theft go unreported and those that do have a tendency to go unsolved. Indian police have likewise gained a global reputation for engaging in corruption and being notoriously understaffed in relation to the local population.

Reuters noted that the only reason this case made international headlines was down to the fact that it was such a large-scale crime taking place at the corporate level. Kia will undoubtedly be running an internal investigation while the police conduct their own.

Thats the question that was posed on "Fox & Friends" Thursday morning, when co-hosts Brian Kilmeade and Lawrence Jones competed in a plank challenge.

A plank is an isometric move where the person holds a push-up position for a set period of time.

Both held a low plank for well over a minute, exceeding the thresholds for their ages, although Kilmeade held his for a few seconds longer.

A fitness expert at Lifetime in New York City provided the below targets for how long you should be able to hold a plank by age.

Planks are often touted as an abdominal exercise, serving as an alternative to traditional sit-ups and crunches, which can strain the back and neck.

However, the isometric move benefits the body in many other ways beyond just sculpting a six-pack.

In addition to working the abdominals, planks also strengthen the muscles in the arms, legs, chest and back, according to Healthline.

They can also help improve posture while sitting or standing and can boost flexibility by stretching the lower half of the body, the above source stated.

While Kilmeade and Jones both held low planks, some may opt for a high plank, which is where the arms are straight and the person balances on the palms of the hands.

For those who are still working up to holding a full plank, the move can be modified by dropping the knees to the floor.

There are also variations of the plank that target different parts of the body. 

Those include side planks, knee touches (touching alternating knees to the ground), hip dips and leg/arm extensions.

If youve just started planking, experts recommend starting with 15 to 30 seconds and gradually increasing the duration, with two minutes generally regarded as a good maximum.

Mike Jerrick, co-host of "Good Day Philadelphia" on FOX29, was broadcasting a skin care segment with Dr. Joanna Walker, a dermatologist with the Tara Miller Melanoma Center at the University of Pennsylvania. (See the video at the top of the article.)

As they discussed the importance of checking the skin for signs of cancer, Walker inspected a spot on Jerrick's right elbow, pronouncing that it was basal cell carcinoma, a common type of skin cancer.

"It has all the features of the most common type of skin cancer, which is also very treatable when it's caught early," Walker said in the segment.

Jerrick expressed surprise, asking, "What are you going to do to it, burn it off?"

The dermatologist replied that the cancerous spot most likely needs to be "cut and stitched."

The good news, she said, is that basal cell is a "very slow-growing type of skin cancer" that's not likely to spread anywhere else on the body.

"But you do need to remove it so it doesn't keep growing and take over normal skin," Walker advised.

Jerrick spoke with Fox News Digital about the revelation, noting that it was a complete surprise to him. 

"I did say that we should have her bring her [micro]scope because I wanted to check out a couple of things on my arms, so that part was planned, but I never really thought it was going to be skin cancer," he said.

The dermatologist recognized it right away, Jerrick shared.

"When she blurted it out, I didn't get alarmed or anything," Jerrick said. "It was just like, Oh dang, I should have done this a long time ago."

"I was more shocked that she said she was going to cut it out instead of burn it off that's where I got surprised."

Jerrick is scheduled to have the cancerous spot removed on Friday.

"I should be fine," he said. "She'll just suture me up and I'll be on my way."

Basal cell carcinoma is the most common type of skin cancer, affecting about 3.6 million Americans each year, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation.

A majority of American adults (69%) sleep on their side, according to a recent poll. That is followed by those who sleep on their backs (19%) and their stomachs (12%).

Sleep expert Wendy Troxel, PhD a RAND Corporation senior behavioral specialist and licensed clinical psychologist in Utah said that sleeping positions are "highly subjective" to each individual.

"The primary consideration should always be individual comfort, [which] can depend on factors like body type and any underlying medical conditions," she said in an interview with Fox News Digital.

Troxel mentioned that side sleeping, particularly on the left, is "frequently recommended" for people facing complications such as sleep apnea or acid reflux.

"These conditions can worsen when lying on the back," she noted.

For those who experience back or hip pain, Troxel suggests sleeping on the back with a pillow under the knees.

Using a mattress with proper lumbar support can also be beneficial for these conditions.

"Ultimately, the healthiest sleep position is one that maintains spinal alignment and distributes weight evenly, which is why selecting the right mattress and pillow is just as important as the position itself," Troxel advised.

Dr. William Lu, MD, medical director at Dreem Health in San Francisco, agreed that there is not one best overall sleep position, as certain conditions may require a particular position shift.

"Side sleeping may be best for patients who exclusively snore when sleeping on their back or have obstructive sleep apnea," he shared in an interview with Fox News Digital.

"However, if you have shoulder pain or upper extremity discomfort, supine/back sleeping may be a better option."

For people who snore or have untreated sleep apnea, Lu said that back sleeping would generally be the "worst position" for these conditions.

"While sleeping on the back, gravity can pull the tongue, mandible and soft tissue backward, causing more obstruction of the airway," he warned.

Kemi Badenoch, leader of the Conservative Party, is preparing to launch a comprehensive review into the United Kingdoms membership in the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). The initiative aims to bring unity within the party on an issue that has long caused internal debate.

In an upcoming speech, Badenoch will announce the creation of a commission to assess how international legal obligationsparticularly the ECHRaffect the UK's ability to manage immigration. The commission will be led by Lord Wolfson of Tredegar, a Conservative peer and former justice minister.

A major focus of the review is to identify ways to prevent international legal rulings from undermining government policies, especially those related to immigration control.

Badenoch also plans to revive a deportation policy similar to the Rwanda scheme, under which people who arrive in the UK by small boats would be blocked from claiming asylum and instead deported to a third country. The specific destination has not yet been named.

This differs from the stance of Shadow Justice Secretary Robert Jenrick, who strongly supports exiting the ECHR.

Labour, meanwhile, advocates staying within the ECHR but plans to introduce laws ensuring that decisions about who can stay in the UK are made by Parliament and the government. This move aims to address concerns about Article 8 of the ECHR, which protects the right to family life and has been used to challenge deportations.
